Summary of Role
As our Fitness & Wellbeing Advisor, you will enhance the health, fitness, and wellbeing of Avon Fire & Rescue Service employees by providing expert training, guidance, and support. You’ll help staff meet and maintain required fitness standards through assessments, tailored advice, and the promotion of healthy, active lifestyles, being responsible for all fitness assessments.
As our Fitness & Wellbeing Advisor, you will also lead fitness testing within recruitment campaigns and work collaboratively across the Service to drive wellbeing initiatives that benefit all employees.

Key Responsibilities
- Leading on Firefighter fitness testing throughout the as part of the annual assessment and recruitment process
- Supporting colleagues returning to work following injury or absence
- Designing interactive training packages and health-focused programmes
- Delivering awareness and education sessions across watches and stations
- Collaborating with Wellbeing Partners, Occupational Health, and Communications teams to ensure holistic support across the organisation
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in a Sport / Exercise Science related subject which must have included the study of exercise physiology and testing throughout the course (years 1- 3)
- Advanced theoretical understanding of functional anatomy, exercise physiology and exercise testing.
- Advanced practical experience in delivering a range of testing protocols.
- Theoretical and practical experience of providing dietary and nutritional advice/guidance for health, wellbeing and/or fitness improvements.
- Experience in design, development and delivery of fitness-related training packages.

Desirable Criteria
- Level 3 Personal Trainer
- Masters degree in Sport / Exercise Science related subject.
- Sports massage qualification / qualification in the treatment of sports injuries.
- Mental Health First Aid Certificate
- First Aid Course
- Accreditation to a certified health / fitness professional organization such as American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) / British Association of Sport and Exercise Scientists (BASES) / Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs)/ Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity
