Role Description
The Fitter role is a full-time, on-site position based predominantly at our site in Terrington St. John near Wisbech. The Fitter will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery, plant, and equipment used in groundworks, road surfacing, and related construction activities. The role involves working closely with site teams to minimize downtime, supporting project delivery, and following safety procedures and industry regulations. The Fitter may be required to travel to different job sites, work outdoors in varying conditions, and collaborate with supervisors to plan and record maintenance activities as well as arranging and co-ordinating HGV inspections & MOTs.
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical fitting skills, including installation, maintenance, and repair of construction plant and equipment.
- HGV1 driver's license.
- Solid understanding of health and safety practices, including safe use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
- Basic electrical and hydraulic fault-finding skills, with the ability to identify issues and carry out minor repairs.
- Previous experience in construction, civil engineering, or road surfacing environments is highly beneficial.
- Good problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to preventive maintenance.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a diverse site team.
- Relevant trade qualification or apprenticeship (e.g., mechanical engineering, plant maintenance) is desirable.
- Willingness to travel between jobs as may be required as HGV driving will also be a key element to the role.
