At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft. GKN Aerospace are searching qualified fitters to express an interest in working with GKN to operate as multi-skilled, flexible workers to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency within our areas. We are anticipating further uptake in the coming months and will be in touch to any successful applicants.

Successful applicants will have a wide knowledge of hand and machine tools used in the aircraft industry including:

  • Precussion riveting
  • Drill/Ream/Countersink in panels with Vanmar tools
  • Setting structures in build jigs
  • Deburring of structures
  • Fettling using approved setting tools
  • Treatment touch-up in localised areas on aluminium
  • Use of CNC pillar drills (DONAU)
  • Part Marking + Identifying

This is a full-time, permanent position working 07:00am-18:45pm on the following shift pattern (which includes 25% shift premium):

  • Week 1: Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Friday
  • Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

Profile description:

How You'll Contribute

  • Ensure parts are produced on a right first time basis
  • Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date
  • Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system
  • Responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
  • Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures
  • Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974
  • To hold first party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval)

What You'll Bring

Essential:

  • A recognised and relevant apprenticeship and relevant NVQ level 3 (Or equivalent) in fitting or a similar relevant field
  • Export Control understanding and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to work to standard operating procedures

Desirable:

  • Previous manufacturing experience in an aircraft production environment
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and techniques to support GKNAF continuous improvement initiatives
