Have you got experience in Fixed Asset Accounting?

We have a fantastic opportunity to join Sovereign Network Group (SNG) as a Fixed Asset Accountant on a permanent basis. Based from our office in Basingstoke, you'll combine home and office working in line with our hybrid working policy to ensure a positive work / life balance.

The role

SNG is one of the largest landlords in England, with fixed assets in excess of c.£7bn and it's essential that we account for these assets accurately and in line with current accounting regulations. As a Fixed Asset Accountant, you'll ensure that all processes and recording of fixed assets are carried out correctly, supporting with monthly management reporting and the delivery of annual statutory reporting.

Responsibilities include:

  • Accurate and timely recording of all housing fixed assets using the fixed asset and finance systems, complying with legislation and accounting policies including component accounting and disposals
  • Providing subject matter expertise in improving business processes, supporting correct coding of fixed asset spend, investment expenditure and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Supporting in the production of annual statutory accounts for all SNG companies, liaising with external auditors working to agreed project deadlines
  • Providing cost analysis in support of the calculation of depreciation, amortisation and asset disposals
  • Providing financial support on key business projects, including budget preparation, benchmarking and KPI data, and process improvements
  • Facilitating the completion of all monthly balance sheet reconciliations, coordinating with the wider team to ensure reconciliations are completed on time

What we need from you

You'll be a Qualified or Part Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent post graduate accounting qualification) with demonstrable experience dealing with large volumes of data in a financial accounting or fixed asset accounting position. Any experience from within housing would be beneficial or from a large organisation with a comprehensive fixed asset register. You'll also:

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of financial accounting processes and controls, with experience in reconciliations and analysing detailed financial information. Exposure to fixed asset accounting, including asset additions, disposals and book value analysis, would be beneficial but is not essential
  • Have an understanding of budgeting and forecasting processes and controls, with the ability to analyse and interpret detailed management information. Knowledge of depreciation and amortisation would be advantageous
  • Show strong prioritisation skills, working well to deadlines
  • Have strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Be highly numerate with excellent attention to detail
  • Have strong IT skills, including MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Knowledge of Asset 4000 and Workday ERP systems would be advantageous though training will be provided
  • A good understanding of relevant legislation and accounting principles for Housing Associations is desirable but not essential
