Location: Barking, East London (Hybrid)
Salary: £40,182 per annum plus excellent public sector benefits and hybrid working
Working Pattern: Full Time, Monday to Friday
Hybrid Working: 3 days office-based in Barking, 2 days remote
Adecco are recruiting on behalf of a public sector organisation for a Fixed Assets and Capital Accountant to join an established Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with experience in fixed assets, capital accounting and financial reporting to play a key role in maintaining robust financial controls and supporting statutory reporting requirements.
The Role
As Fixed Assets and Capital Accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate fixed asset and leasing records, supporting capital accounting activities and contributing to the production of financial statements and year-end accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the Fixed Asset Register, ensuring all acquisitions, disposals and transfers are accurately recorded.
- Manage asset depreciation, impairment and other capital accounting adjustments.
- Maintain leasing records and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards.
- Reconcile fixed asset records to the General Ledger and investigate variances.
- Monitor and report on capital expenditure and capital projects.
- Support the year-end closure process and preparation of financial statements.
- Prepare financial disclosures, working papers and supporting documentation for external audit.
- Respond to audit queries and ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Complete statutory returns, financial reports and related submissions.
- Produce financial analysis and management information to support decision-making.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and asset management practices.
- Support and advise stakeholders on financial procedures and best practice.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related subject, or AAT Level 4 qualification, or be part-qualified ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA or equivalent.
- Experience of year-end accounts preparation and financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial controls.
- Experience maintaining fixed asset registers and undertaking capital accounting activities.
- Proven experience completing complex balance sheet and General Ledger reconciliations.
- Strong Excel and financial systems experience.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively to deadlines.
Desirable Experience
- Fixed assets and capital accounting within the public sector.
- Experience supporting external audits.
- Experience producing statutory accounts.
- Experience using ERP or financial management systems such as Oracle, SAP, Unit4, Agresso, Civica or similar.
