We are currently recruiting for a Fixed Costs Negotiator to join our Liverpool office. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about achieving the best outcomes for clients, delivering excellent service, and progressing their career within a supportive legal environment.

You will be responsible for negotiating costs on a variety of files, working closely with colleagues to ensure accurate, timely and commercially effective resolutions. This role involves managing your own caseload, engaging with opponents, and ensuring that cost negotiations are handled efficiently and strategically across predominantly RTA matters (Fast track, Intermediate Track & MOJ).

Responsibilities:

  • Negotiating costs on a wide range of files, ensuring the best possible settlement for clients
  • Assessing the reasonableness and recoverability of costs in line with CPR and case law
  • Providing dedicated costs support to colleagues across the department and wider business
  • Working closely with the team and Department Manager to ensure negotiation targets are achieved
  • Managing your own caseload efficiently, ensuring deadlines and service expectations are met
  • Maintaining awareness of claim lifecycles and adapting negotiation strategy accordingly
  • Contributing to departmental processes and best practices
  • Demonstrating initiative, strong analytical skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Understanding legal processes, costs principles and internal case management systems
  • Being proactive, enthusiastic and adaptable within a fast‑paced environment

About You:

  • Experience as a Costs Negotiator or in a similar fixed costs-focused role (2 years desirable but open to circa 12 months)
  • Strong understanding of the CPR, fixed costs tables, costs rules, case law and relevant legislation
  • Experience negotiating costs
  • Excellent communication, organisation and analytical skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience using Proclaim or similar case management systems (desirable)
  • Tenacity, professionalism and the ability to build constructive working relationships
