Fixed Wire Test Engineer

Department: Field Team Employment Type: Permanent – Full Time Location: North Yorkshire (Home-based) Compensation: £36,000 – £39,000 per year (with location-based adjustments)

About the Role

We are seeking Fixed Wire Test Engineers with experience in commercial electrical installations, primarily working from a home base in:

  • North Yorkshire
  • Sheffield
  • Bristol
  • Northampton (or nearby locations)

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct periodic inspection and testing of fixed wire installations and distribution boards in commercial environments
  • Perform minor remedial works where necessary
  • Generate accurate NICEIC reports for internal quality review
  • Collaborate closely with Technical Manager and Operations team
  • Utilise bespoke testing software designed for efficiency and speed
  • Operate across facilities management, retail, commercial, education, and local authority sectors

Special Notes on Work

  • Primarily focuses on large-scale commercial projects rather than domestic housing
  • duty paid at 40 hours/week with opportunities for overtime and weekend work
  • Travel requirements are regionally based; local roles cannot be guaranteed

Skills and Qualifications

Technical Requirements

Must hold a qualification equivalent to:

  • City & Guilds 2391/Qualification in Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection (or advanced experience)
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • AM2 or NVQ Level 3 qualification
  • Time-served as an electrician or tester preferred

Experience and Competencies

  • Proven expertise in testing commercial fixed wire systems, excluding domestic housing
  • Strict adherence to company safety policies and current legislation
  • Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Ability to use customised testing software and propose process improvements
