Fleet & Compliance Manager
Salary/Hourly Rate – £42,249 - £58,093 per annum (plus benefits)
Hours – 40 hours per week
Location & Postcode – Central Bedfordshire, MK41 0QS
As a Fleet & Compliance Manager at FCC Environment, you will support the Contract Manager in overseeing the daily health, safety, environmental and operational performance of the Central Bedfordshire Refuse & Recycling Collections & Street Cleansing contract. Working across the Bedford and Dunstable depots, you will help manage frontline service delivery, maintain client satisfaction and ensure legislative compliance.
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week.

What will you be doing?
- Supporting the Contract Manager with the safe, efficient and compliant day-to-day management of operations.
- Monitoring contracts and vehicle operations to maximise efficiency and minimise downtime.
- Maintaining service standards across collections, cleansing and associated services.
- Supervising the use of equipment, materials and personnel to make sure resources are used efficiently.
- Ensuring allocated work is completed on time, to specification and to a high standard.
- Supporting cost control and assisting with operational cost reports, forecasts and budgets.
- Monitoring attendance and ensuring a trained and motivated workforce is available to meet contract objectives.
- Overseeing and arranging skills training for site operatives.
- Conducting regular briefings with operatives around contract objectives, efficiency and productivity.
- Supporting compliance with health and safety, environmental requirements, planning consents, waste disposal permits and operator licences.
- Ensuring employees and subcontractors are appropriately trained and have the necessary valid licences and certificates of competence.
- Assisting with risk assessments, accident investigations and environmental impact assessments where required.

What are we looking for?
- Transport Manager CPC, or willingness to work towards this.
- WAMITAB and/or CoTC qualification, or willingness to work towards this.
- Operational management experience, ideally within the waste industry or a similar environment.
- Experience managing teams and delivering against operational and financial targets.
- Experience preparing and working to budgets.
- Knowledge of heavy goods vehicle fleet operations and associated transport legislation.
- Experience managing and developing a frontline workforce within an operational environment.
- A good understanding of business finance management.
- Numerate and IT literate, with the ability to use management information effectively.
- Strong health and safety awareness.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to represent the company with clients, regulatory bodies and community groups.
- A strong team leader with the drive and enthusiasm to inspire operational teams and continually improve ways of working.
