Fleet Engineer (Rolling Stock)
Location: Flexible (UK Wide)
Duration: 4-6 Months

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Fleet Engineer to support a major UK rolling stock fleet programme. This role will involve working closely with key stakeholders, operators, maintainers, and engineering teams to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of a diesel multiple unit (DMU) fleet.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across fleet engineering activities, supporting maintenance programmes, engineering changes, reliability improvements, and fleet performance initiatives. The position offers flexibility in both location and working arrangements to suit the successful individual.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support and respond to engineering queries across the fleet.
- Chair and lead technical meetings, engineering reviews, and stakeholder discussions.
- Support fleet performance reviews with operators, maintainers, and other stakeholders.
- Review, assess, and approve engineering changes, modifications, and technical proposals.
- Support heavy maintenance, overhaul, and refurbishment programmes.
- Develop, maintain, and review Fleet Management Plans and associated technical documentation.
- Act as a technical interface between fleet stakeholders, including Train Operating Companies (TOCs), maintainers, and suppliers.
- Manage and coordinate specialist consultants, contractors, and engineering service providers.
- Monitor fleet reliability, performance, and maintenance activities, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Provide broad fleet engineering expertise covering both mechanical and electrical systems.

Required Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in railway rolling stock fleet engineering.
- Strong understanding of fleet management, asset management, maintenance, and reliability processes.
- Experience supporting engineering change, modifications, and technical governance activities.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical decision-making skills.
- Broad systems engineering knowledge across rolling stock mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a collaborative environment.

Desirable Experience
- Experience working with diesel multiple unit (DMU) fleets.
- Knowledge of DMU rolling stock or similar regional passenger fleets.
- Experience of overhaul, refurbishment, or heavy maintenance programmes.
- Familiarity with UK railway industry standards, regulations, and fleet assurance processes.
