Purpose

The purpose of this role is to lead and manage all fleet operations to ensure company vehicles, plant, and equipment remain safe, compliant, cost-effective, and operationally available to support business delivery.

Reporting Structure

Reports To: Head of SHEQ

Direct Reports:

  • Mobile Mechanic
  • Apprentice Mechanic

Roles & Responsibilities

3.1 Fleet Management and Leadership

  • Lead and manage all fleet operations across the business to ensure vehicles, plant, and equipment remain safe, compliant, and operationally effective.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of the fleet function, including mechanics and supporting resources.
  • Ensure fleet performance supports operational delivery and business requirements.
  • Develop a proactive fleet safety and maintenance culture.

3.2 Fleet Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with all legal, regulatory, and company fleet requirements.
  • Maintain compliance relating to vehicle inspections, servicing, MOTs, defect reporting, operator licensing, and maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure fleet records are accurate, complete, and audit-ready at all times.
  • Escalate major compliance risks to the Head of SHEQ.

3.3 Maintenance Planning

  • Develop and manage planned preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure servicing, inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities are completed on time.
  • Minimise downtime and maximise fleet availability.
  • Ensure defects are prioritised based on operational risk.

3.4 Vehicle Safety and Defect Management

  • Oversee defect reporting, repair planning, and rectification.
  • Ensure safety-critical defects are addressed immediately.
  • Monitor recurring defects and implement preventative controls.
  • Ensure unsafe vehicles are removed from service immediately.

3.5 Workshop and Mobile Support Operations

  • Manage workshop and mobile maintenance activities.
  • Ensure work is completed efficiently and to required quality standards.
  • Monitor repair performance and maintenance output.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and resources are properly maintained.

3.6 Cost and Performance Management

  • Monitor fleet costs including repairs, servicing, downtime, and maintenance efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost control and operational efficiency.
  • Support budgeting and asset lifecycle planning.
  • Drive value and efficiency across the fleet function.

3.7 Reporting and Continuous Improvement

  • Produce monthly fleet performance reports for the Head of SHEQ.
  • Report on fleet compliance, downtime, defects, and maintenance performance.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across fleet operations.
  • Support business objectives through operational improvement.
