Fleet & Transportation Manager Opportunity
We have an opportunity for an experienced Fleet & Transportation Manager to join a fast-growing Civil Engineering Contractor, based in East Sussex.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a large fleet of over 400 assets, including specialist heavy plant, HGV's, trucks, grey vehicles, and cars.
Critically, we're looking for a candidate capable of implementing a robust Fleet & Transport Management system, from the ground up.
While the company has an existing fleet administration system, the leadership team believes that this is outdated and are keen to modernize both the fleet at a practical level, along with the systems and processes to keep the fleet running smoothly.
You will be key to introducing a new fleet management system, including the rollout of relevant software (you will guide the business on which software you believe will fit the company needs, based on your experience), as well as creating the operational and administrative processes required to keep the fleet running.

- Ensure preventative maintenance inspections, MOTs, and servicing are completed within required intervals
- Maintain oversight of OCRS performance and implement corrective actions
- Ensure robust daily defect reporting systems are in place and rectified promptly
- Enforce vehicle off-road procedures where legal or safety standards are not met
- Maintain accurate transport records for inspection by enforcement authorities
- Monitor roadworthiness across HGV, vans, and authorized grey fleet through planned maintenance, verification, and audit checks
- Ensure all vehicles are taxed, insured, and hold valid certification
- Oversee compliance relating to LOLER / PUWER where transport responsibilities apply
- Ensure all drivers (HGV, company vehicle, and grey fleet) hold valid licenses, appropriate entitlements, and Driver CPC where required
- Manage license checking and ongoing eligibility to drive
- Coordinate driver inductions, declarations, and compliance training
- Act as transport lead within the company insurance framework
- Ensure all incidents, collisions, and damage are reported, investigated, and recorded
- Liaise with insurers and brokers to support efficient claim handling
- Maintain claims data and support trend analysis
- Promote risk reduction initiatives to minimize future exposure
- Produce KPIs covering compliance status, defects, incidents, and driver metrics
- Promote a positive compliance and safety culture
- Identify training and development needs across the driver population
