Fleet Manager | £60,000–£65,000 + bonus + hybrid working
Take the lead in fleet excellence, compliance and continuous improvement
A leading b2b & b2c in-house distribution business are looking to appoint an experienced Fleet Manager to take a strategic lead in fleet maintenance, compliance and continuous improvement across its national operation.
This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive fleet or transport professional to take ownership of a complex, multi-site fleet environment, strengthen operational standards and drive the ongoing development of the fleet function.
With responsibility spanning 14 depots and an ADR-regulated fleet, you will play a key role in ensuring vehicles are maintained safely, compliance standards are consistently met and opportunities for improvement are identified and delivered. Working closely with operational teams and senior stakeholders, you will have the autonomy to challenge existing processes, influence change and help shape the future direction of fleet operations.
If you combine strong technical knowledge with a strategic mindset and the confidence to make a difference, this could be the opportunity for you.
The Role
The Fleet Manager will oversee fleet maintenance, regulatory compliance and performance across national network of 14 depots. The operation includes ADR vehicles, covering both tanker-to-tanker and standard-fill activities.
You will balance day-to-day fleet requirements with longer-term strategic improvements, ensuring the fleet function continues to support safe, efficient and compliant operations across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Fleet maintenance and standards: Oversee fleet maintenance arrangements, ensuring vehicles are maintained safely, effectively and in line with operational requirements.
- Regulatory compliance: Maintain oversight of a complex Operator Licence environment, ensuring regulatory requirements are met and high standards are maintained across the operation.
- ADR compliance: Support the effective management of an ADR-regulated fleet, ensuring relevant standards and requirements are understood and addressed.
- Strategic improvement: Identify opportunities to improve fleet processes, strengthen ways of working and develop the fleet function in line with wider business objectives.
- Inspection and maintenance planning: Review the annual inspection programme for barrels and associated maintenance requirements, exploring opportunities to move routine maintenance activity into the summer months where appropriate.
- Reporting and performance management: Use fleet reporting and compliance information to monitor performance, identify trends and areas for improvement, and support informed decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience with ADR-regulated vehicles would be a significant advantage, particularly within a tanker or bulk distribution environment.
Experience in a field-based engineering or commercial vehicle setting, including exposure to vehicles such as Transit vans, may also be relevant.
Above all, you will be someone who takes ownership, builds strong relationships and is motivated to improve fleet standards, compliance and performance.
The Team
You will work closely with the wider operational and transport teams, collaborating with three Operations Managers and colleagues responsible for transport planning and operational performance.

You will have the scope to influence how fleet maintenance and compliance are managed, improve inspection and maintenance planning, strengthen reporting and performance, and introduce changes that deliver lasting operational benefits.
