Role Description

The Fleet Mechanic & Maintenance Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Penzance, responsible for maintaining and repairing company vehicles, plant, and heavy equipment used in scaffolding operations.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out scheduled maintenance
  • Diagnosing faults
  • Performing mechanical repairs
  • Ensuring equipment is safe and compliant with relevant regulations
  • Conducting preventive maintenance checks
  • Recording service and repair activities
  • Coordinating with operations staff to minimize downtime
  • Responding to urgent breakdowns
  • Assisting with basic workshop organization
  • Inventory of parts and tools
  • Continuous improvement of maintenance procedures to support reliable fleet performance

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in general Maintenance and Maintenance & Repair for vehicles, plant, and equipment.
  • Experience with Preventive Maintenance programs, including routine inspections and scheduled servicing.
  • Hands-on experience working with Heavy Equipment commonly used in construction or scaffolding environments.
  • Effective Troubleshooting skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and related systems.
  • Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in vehicle mechanics, plant maintenance, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards and ability to work safely in a workshop and site environment.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and service documentation and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence; experience with commercial vehicles or HGVs is an advantage.

This is a full-time, hands-on role working alongside our Fleet Manager — covering vehicle maintenance and repairs, scaffolding material welding, HGV driving across the South West, and providing relief fleet management cover.

We're also expanding into Electric Vehicles — so fully funded EV training is on offer, alongside hoist maintenance training.
