INTERNAL VACANCY
The City of York Council’s Fleet team have an exciting opportunity for a Fleet Operations Officer to join a strong team in a great working environment.
The successful applicant will be working at Hazel Court Depot in our modern fleet offices.
As a Fleet Operations Officer you will support the effective operation of the Council’s fleet by coordinating maintenance activities, liaising with suppliers, and ensuring vehicles remain compliant and available for service. The postholder will handle routine technical queries, monitor progress of external repairs, and maintain accurate records in fleet systems. Working closely with the Assistant Fleet Operations Manager and workshop team, the role helps minimise downtime, maintain safety standards, and deliver a reliable service to customers.
Main duties include:
- Coordinate maintenance activities
- Monitor progress of external jobs
- Handle technical enquiries
- Assist the fleet compliance officer
- Support workshop scheduling
- Arrange roadside assistance and recovery
- Review driver defect reports
- Update fleet management reports
- Arrange and monitor warranty and recall work
- Provide updates on vehicle availability and repair progress
- Work safely at all times
- Raise purchase orders
- Liaise with colleagues, customers and suppliers face to face

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level B2: Can adjust to the changes of direction, style and emphasis normally found in conversation. Can produce stretches of language with a fairly even tempo; although they can be hesitant as they search for patterns and expressions, there are few noticeably long pauses.
