Centrepoint, the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity, is looking for Floating Support & Progression Officer to join our Highfield Terrace Team based in Barnsley.
About Us
We help vulnerable young people by giving them the practical and emotional support they need to find a job and live independently. Centrepoint provides homeless young people with accommodation, health support and life skills in order to get them back into education, training and employment. We want to end youth homelessness by 2037.
Together with our partners, we support over 16,000 young people each year.
Highfield Terrace is an Ofsted-registered, semi-independent supported accommodation service for young people aged 16 to 18, providing support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where young people can build confidence, develop self-worth, and gain the practical skills needed to thrive in adulthood.
Our dedicated team works alongside young people to help them achieve positive outcomes in independent living, education, training, and employment. Through tailored support and engaging opportunities, including our accredited in-house independent living programme, Lifewise, we empower young people to develop essential life skills, positive social networks, and greater independence.
At Highfield Terrace, we offer more than just accommodation. We provide a welcoming and inclusive home where young people are encouraged to grow, achieve their goals, and successfully transition into independent adult life.

We are currently seeking a Floating Support & Progression Officer to join our close-knit team. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in shaping a safe, welcoming, and high-quality environment alongside our young people.
About You
- Passionate about supporting young people to achieve their goals.
- Knowledge of the challenges affecting vulnerable and homeless young people.
- Able to build positive relationships and engage others with empathy and respect.
- Calm, resilient and confident in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, organisation and record-keeping skills.
- Committed to safeguarding, inclusion and teamwork.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people and act as their keyworker, supporting them to achieve their goals.
- Develop and deliver personalised support and risk management plans that help young people progress towards independent living.
- Support young people to access education, training, employment, volunteering and apprenticeship opportunities.
- Help young people develop essential life skills, including budgeting, managing finances and maintaining their accommodation.
- Advocate for young people and connect them with Centrepoint services and external support agencies.
- Work collaboratively with partner organisations, landlords and local services to achieve positive outcomes for young people.
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, wellbeing and risk management at all times.
- Keep accurate case records and contribute to a psychologically informed, person-centred support environment.
Applicants for this role will be expected to work on a rota, which includes early and late shifts as well as weekends.
