About the role

Please note that this role does not involve any aspect of care or personal care.

This is a Floating Support Worker role based in Newport. You will provide housing-related support to individuals aged 18 and over who are either struggling to maintain their tenancy, are at risk of homelessness, or are currently experiencing homelessness.

Day to day duties:

  • Managing your own caseload and electronic diary
  • Travelling to customers homes to deliver housing related support
  • Supporting individuals to access housing options
  • Providing resettlement support, including setting up tenancies, arranging utilities, and registering with health services
  • Completing grant applications
  • Completing referral forms
  • Supporting individuals to maximise their income, ensure appropriate benefits are in place, and receive support with debt management, budgeting, and setting up sustainable repayment arrangements.
  • Liaising with landlords
  • Working closely with other agencies and professionals to ensure customers’ support needs are met
  • Completing administrative tasks, including risk assessments, needs assessments, and support plans
  • Monitoring customer outcomes in line with Housing Support Grant requirements

Skills and experience needed:

  • Relevant work experience and knowledge of issues relating to vulnerable people
  • Passion and enthusiasm for supporting people to live as independently as possible
  • Strong initiative and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to manage challenging and conflicting situations
  • Understanding of homelessness processes and the ability to signpost and support those experiencing housing issues
  • A full driving licence and access to a car
