About the Role
To support the effective procurement of raw materials, ingredients, packaging and other goods required by the business, ensuring competitive pricing, quality, availability and reliable supplier relationships.
The Buyer will work closely with internal departments and suppliers to ensure purchasing activities meet business requirements, support operational efficiency and deliver value for money.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and purchase raw materials, ingredients, packaging and other required goods in line with business needs.
- Identify, evaluate and develop relationships with new and existing suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times and contractual arrangements to achieve cost efficiencies.
- Monitor supplier performance, ensuring quality, service levels and delivery schedules are maintained.
- Raise and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
- Monitor stock levels and purchasing requirements to support production planning and avoid supply disruption.
- Work closely with Production, Operations, Quality, Finance and Supply Chain teams to ensure procurement requirements are met.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier details and procurement documentation.
- Monitor market trends, commodity prices and supplier developments to identify potential risks and opportunities.
- Support cost-saving initiatives and continuous improvement across procurement activities.
- Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, food safety requirements and relevant ethical sourcing standards.
- Resolve supplier issues relating to pricing, quality, delivery and invoicing.
- Provide regular purchasing reports and updates to management.

Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a Buyer or Procurement role, ideally within food manufacturing or FMCG.
- Experience sourcing raw materials, ingredients or packaging.
- Strong negotiation, communication and supplier relationship management skills.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Good numerical and analytical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and purchasing or ERP systems.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with good attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
