voco Zeal Exeter Science Park is IHG’s first net zero carbon hotel, opened in February 2025 at the entrance to Exeter Science Park, a hub for leading science, technology, engineering, maths, and medicine businesses in the South West. The 4-star hotel is designed for environmentally conscious guests, featuring 142 stylish bedrooms and a restaurant and bar that highlight local produce. Guests enjoy amenities including a mini gym and landscaped gardens. The property is fully electric and offers a car park with 12 EV charging points, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainability and modern hospitality.
Role Description
The Food and Beverage Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based at voco Zeal Exeter Science Park in Exeter. The role involves providing welcoming, efficient food and beverage service in the restaurant, bar, and meeting spaces, ensuring guests have a high-quality experience from arrival to departure. The Food and Beverage Assistant supports sustainable practices, follows hotel procedures and safety guidelines, handles payments and billing accurately, and works closely with the wider team to support events and peak service periods. Flexibility to work shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, is required to meet business needs.
Qualifications
- Strong Food Service and Food & Beverage skills, with experience in restaurant, bar, or hotel service environments.
- Basic Food Preparation skills and an understanding of food hygiene and safety standards.
- Excellent Customer Service and Communication skills, with a friendly, professional, and inclusive approach to guests and colleagues.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment, with good time management and attention to detail.
- Previous experience in hospitality or hotels is beneficial; barista or bar experience is an advantage.
- Willingness to learn about and support sustainable and environmentally conscious practices within the hotel.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays; reliable and punctual attendance.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills; food safety certification or equivalent training is an asset.
