Sopwell House is a family-owned 5-star country house hotel set within 12 acres of Hertfordshire countryside, offering guests a luxurious escape within easy reach of London, St Pancras, and Luton Airport. The hotel features 126 rooms and suites, including 16 individually designed Mews Suites, and a diverse range of dining options such as Omboo, the Brasserie, Conservatory Bar, and Octagon Bar. With 15 versatile event spaces, Sopwell House hosts meetings, conferences, and weddings, providing tailored experiences for a variety of guests. The property is also home to the award-winning Cottonmill Spa, a vibrant wellness destination with advanced fitness facilities and world-class treatments.
Role Description
The Food and Beverage Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at Sopwell House in St Albans. This role oversees all food and beverage operations, ensuring high standards of service across restaurants, bars, events, and in-room dining. The manager plans and coordinates daily service, supervises and supports team members, and ensures that guest experiences are consistently welcoming and professional.

Responsibilities include:

- Managing staffing levels and rotas
- Monitoring quality and presentation of food and drinks
- Maintaining health, safety, and hygiene standards
- Collaborating with the kitchen and events teams
- Managing budgets and cost controls
- Supporting training and development
- Contributing to menu and service innovation
Qualifications
- Strong food service and food & beverage management skills, with experience in a hotel or high-end hospitality environment.
- Excellent customer service abilities, with a focus on guest satisfaction, communication, and conflict resolution.
- Experience in training, coaching, and developing food and beverage teams to deliver consistent, high-quality service.
- Competence in budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting for food and beverage operations.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and food hygiene regulations, with a commitment to best practices.
- Effective leadership and people management skills, including performance management and team motivation.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, service-focused environment.
- Previous experience in luxury hotels or similar settings is highly desirable; relevant hospitality qualifications are an advantage.
