FOOD BANK VOLUNTEER
Role Purpose
To support the day-to-day running of the foodbank and help ensure that people experiencing food insecurity receive practical, respectful and compassionate support.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and assist foodbank service users in a friendly, respectful and non-judgemental manner.
- Assist with food parcel collection, including checking collection details, preparing parcels and handing them to service users.
- Help sort, check, organise and pack donated food and essential items.
- Prepare food parcels and assist with their distribution to individuals and families in need.
- Help receive, unload and store food donations safely.
- Keep foodbank areas clean, organised and safe.
- Check food dates, packaging and quality in accordance with food safety procedures.
- Assist with basic stock management and keeping storage areas organised.
- Help set up and clear the foodbank before and after sessions.
- Provide practical support to the foodbank team during busy periods.
- Where appropriate, assist with foodbank outreach and community activities, including helping with the preparation and distribution of food.
- Follow the foodbank’s safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and zero-tolerance policies.
- Treat all service users, volunteers and staff with dignity, respect and professionalism.
- Report any concerns, incidents or safeguarding issues to the Foodbank Management.

Person Specification
We are looking for volunteers who are:
- Compassionate, reliable and respectful.
- Comfortable working with people from different backgrounds.
- Able to work as part of a team.
- Organised and willing to undertake practical tasks.
- Punctual and dependable.
- Able to follow instructions and food safety procedures.
- Committed to supporting people affected by food insecurity and reducing food waste.

Hours: 2.5hrs per week
Reports to: Foodbank Manager / Volunteer Coordinator
