About Hooley Brown
Hooley Brown is a growing compliance and localisation agency helping consumer brands bring their products successfully into international markets.
We work with food and drink businesses on regulatory strategy, food safety and labelling compliance, product specifications, claims, artwork and packaging adjustments. Our projects cover a wide range of products, including food, beverages, food supplements, pet food and other consumer packaged products.
We are looking for an experienced Food Regulatory Compliance Specialist to join our close-knit team and help our clients navigate complex regulatory requirements across international markets.

The role
You will help guide food and drink products through the regulatory requirements for markets including the UK, European Union, United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
You will manage regulatory compliance projects from initial assessment through to market-ready approval, working closely with clients, colleagues and specialist consultants.
A key part of the role is translating regulations into practical, commercially useful advice. You will be trusted to research technical questions, identify potential compliance issues and give clients clear recommendations that allow them to make informed decisions.
You will also have regular contact with customers, suppliers, consultants and other stakeholders, so strong communication skills are just as important as technical knowledge.
What you'll be doing
- Preparing regulatory compliance assessments for food and drink products entering new markets.
- Advising clients on food labelling, ingredients, allergens, nutrition information, claims, composition, food safety and export requirements.
- Reviewing product specifications, technical documentation and compliance dossiers.
- Reviewing packaging and artwork and providing clear, practical compliance feedback.
- Researching regulatory questions and translating legislation and guidance into commercially relevant recommendations.
- Coordinating with regulatory, food safety, nutrition and technical specialists within our wider consultant network.
- Supporting responses to regulatory, retailer and marketplace enquiries.
- Contributing to client proposals and occasionally supporting other compliance activities such as product registrations and notifications.
- Attending occasional client meetings, training courses, trade fairs or industry conferences.

What we're looking for
You will have at least three years of relevant professional experience in food regulatory affairs, food technology, technical compliance or a similar role where food labelling, specifications, claims or artwork approval formed a significant part of your responsibilities.
You should have a strong practical understanding of UK and European food law and food labelling requirements. This should include areas such as ingredients and allergens, nutrition information, claims, composition, traceability and product-specific requirements.
Experience gained within a food or drink brand, manufacturer, retailer, consultancy or regulatory environment would all be relevant.
Experience working with international markets is highly desirable. In particular, knowledge of food regulations in the USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand would be an advantage, but we do not expect candidates to be experts in every jurisdiction.
You will have a relevant higher professional or university degree, such as food science, food technology, nutrition, food safety, regulatory affairs or a related discipline.
Experience with food specification or product lifecycle management systems would also be useful.

You will be highly organised, comfortable managing several projects and deadlines, and confident working both independently and as part of a small team.
Excellent written and spoken English is essential, as you will regularly communicate technical information to clients and colleagues.
You should also have a strong eye for detail, good research and analytical skills, a practical problem-solving approach and the confidence to communicate clearly with clients.
The working language at Hooley Brown is English. Additional European language skills are an advantage, particularly where they help with reading regulations, product information or packaging.
