Summary
Basketdrop Ltd is looking for an ambitious Food Safety Manager Apprentice. You will manage crucial industry accreditations, including SALSA, BRCGS, and ISO standards across our logistics network. Earn a Level 6 Degree with the University of West London and access our in-house training!
Wage
£14,560 to £23,132.20, depending on your age
National Minimum Wage

Fully funded Level 6 BSc (Hons) Degree
worth £27,000+ with zero student debt to the apprentice. The starting salary is set competitively above the standard legal minimum. Structured annual pay reviews aligned directly with corporate performance frameworks and university module progress milestones. All university block-release study days, laboratory sessions, and exams are fully paid working hours.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Assisting in the design, implementation, and maintenance of BRCGS and SALSA food safety management systems.
- Managing documentation, policies, and continuous compliance tracking for ISO quality certifications.
- Conducting regular internal audits and site inspections across our automated cold-chain logistics facilities.
- Monitoring critical control points (HACCP) and tracking real-time temperature logs on our delivery platforms.
- Preparing comprehensive data packs, compliance evidence, and reports ahead of external certification audits.
- Managing technical relationships with food safety inspectors, suppliers, and retail clients.
- Investigating any quality deviations or food safety incidents, implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Delivering internal toolbox talks and updates on food sector accreditations to team members.
Where you'll work
This role is open to applicants across England, featuring a flexible hybrid framework combining home-based remote work with scheduled visits to regional hub locations. You will coordinate quality standards, documentation reviews, and audits across our various distribution points in England. The position involves close collaboration with our cross-border operations, including international travel links to China and the United States.

What you'll learn
- Contribute to the development, validation, and implementation of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system.
- Establish process parameters and control requirements; measure the impact of process on product, set limits, and take action to deal with process and product non-conformance.
- Interpret laboratory results; identify and analyse trends to diagnose or anticipate issues; define and implement action plans.
- Contribute to creating and implementing product specifications to meet customer requirements, identifying the key risk factors in product design.
- Contribute to the development of internal audits to ensure compliance with legal, industry, and customer standards.
- Identify and promote tools to ensure a food safety culture within the organisation.
- Utilise tools to support the delivery of consistent quality of products.
- Establish and monitor integrated cleaning and hygiene programmes.
- Drive external audits including preparation, auditor interaction, and corrective actions.
- Manage complaint performance through the identification of trends and the design of corrective action programmes.
- Design and implement site procedures to ensure legal compliance with current food law.
- Manage, influence, and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Optimise and control parameters that influence common industry processes, for example: washing, mixing, heating, cooking, cooling and chilling, freezing, drying, freeze drying.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver new or existing product development projects.
- Apply project management tools to deliver projects to time, cost, specification, and quality.
- Coordinate investigations into product non-conformances and implement incident management procedures.
- Review and select scientific techniques considering cost and practicalities and justifying the selection of service providers.
- Contribute to monitoring supplier performance and intake controls using supplier risk management processes.
- Design, implement, and validate traceability systems to be fully compliant with customer and legal requirements.
- Lead, inspire, and support the development of the team, providing technical guidance on food safety and quality.
- Identify, select, and source relevant data and critically evaluate complex information to inform actions.
- Support and participate in environmental sustainability efforts by ensuring eco-friendly practices, such as waste reduction and energy optimisation.

Training schedule
Training will utilise a blended learning delivery model, combining hands-on technical food safety management at Basketdrop Ltd with structured block-release academic sessions. The apprentice will attend dedicated block learning weeks at the University of West London campus (St Mary's Road, Ealing, W5 5RF) throughout the academic year. Dedicated study time, university lecture attendance, and assignment completion will be structured around a strict 20% off-the-job training framework during regular working hours. Formal, three-way progress reviews will be conducted systematically every 12 weeks between the apprentice, a workplace supervisor at Basketdrop Ltd, and the university academic tutor.

Academic delivery is provided by the University of West London (UWL), highly acclaimed for its industry-connected food and hospitality science frameworks. The apprentice will study towards a fully funded Level 6 BSc (Hons) degree in Food Industry Technical Professional, combining operations management, microbiological security, and global food legislation. Complete preparation for the End-Point Assessment (EPA) is fully integrated directly into the university curriculum pathway, ensuring the apprentice is guided step-by-step toward achieving both their honours degree and professional status.
