Job Location: Youth Center - Birmingham, AL 35203

Position Type: Part Time


Serve Great Food. Make Every Meal Count. If you enjoy cooking, working as part of a team, and creating a welcoming dining experience, we'd love to have you join us. As a YMCA Kitchen Staff member, you'll help prepare nutritious, high-quality meals while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen. Every meal you serve helps support the health and well-being of our members, participants, and guests.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Prepare and serve food using established recipes and production procedures.
  • Assist with food presentation and meal service.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and personal hygiene standards.
  • Properly store food and maintain organized kitchen inventory.
  • Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, kitchen equipment, dining areas, and food preparation surfaces.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen that meets YMCA, state health, and safety standards.
  • Report equipment repairs or maintenance needs to your supervisor.
  • Attend staff meetings, required trainings, and special events.
  • Assist with other kitchen and food service responsibilities as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • A dependable team player with a positive attitude.
  • Someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to food safety, cleanliness, and quality service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others.

Qualifications Requirements

  • Experience working in a commercial kitchen preferred.
  • Experience preparing meals for large groups is preferred.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in a warm kitchen setting.
  • Successfully complete a background screening.
  • Obtain YMCA-required certifications within 30 days of hire, including: First Aid/CPR/AED Required Praesidum online training modules.
