Food Technologist
Location: Surrey (Hybrid Working)
Salary: £38k-£40k

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing Technical team and gain exposure to major customer accounts, product development projects, and cross-functional stakeholder management within a dynamic food environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Technical Account Manager, the Food Technologist will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day technical management of customer accounts, ensuring products meet food safety, quality, legal, and customer requirements at all times.
The successful candidate will act as a key link between customers, manufacturing sites, suppliers, and internal teams, helping to deliver excellent customer service while supporting technical compliance and new product development activities.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage the day-to-day technical activities for allocated customer accounts, ensuring customer, legal, quality, and food safety requirements are met at all times.
- Support Own Label and Branded New Product Development projects from concept through to launch, ensuring all technical documentation is completed accurately and on time.
- Maintain customer specifications, technical documentation, online portals, questionnaires, certificates, and compliance records.
- Review and approve artwork, packaging, and product information to ensure compliance with current legislation and customer standards.
- Monitor product quality and specification compliance, supporting continuous improvement initiatives where required.
- Investigate customer complaints, conduct root cause analysis, and coordinate corrective actions to achieve timely resolution.
- Support customer audits, technical visits, meetings, and ongoing customer relationship management activities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, manufacturing sites, suppliers, and co-manufacturers to ensure customer expectations are achieved.
- Provide technical support across the business, helping to retain existing business and support new commercial opportunities.
- Participate in food safety, quality, compliance, sensory evaluation, and product assessment activities.
- Support technical projects, product withdrawals, recalls, and other business-critical activities as required.
- Contribute to process improvements and promote best practice across technical, quality, and compliance functions.

Person Profile

- Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, or a related discipline.
- Experience within a food manufacturing technical, quality, or NPD environment.
- Knowledge of HACCP and food safety principles.
- Understanding of BRC standards and quality management systems.
- Experience managing product specifications and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and planning abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build effective working relationships across multiple stakeholders.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required.
