An opportunity to write for The Economist
We are seeking interns to write about foreign affairs for The Economist. The internships typically last for six months. They will be London-based and paid.
All applicants must already have the right to work in the UK.
Application Requirements
Applicants should produce three ideas for articles that would be suitable for publication in The Economist. For two of these, write a short pitch (one paragraph for each idea) that proposes the story for an editor to consider commissioning. For the third idea, send a completed article of 600 words that would be suitable for publication in The Economist. In addition, send a CV and a cover letter to foreignintern@economist.com.

Application Process
The aim of the internship scheme is to find future Economist journalists. Previous experience is not necessary. The original article and two pitches that you send us are the most important parts of the application. Applications close on October 30th 2026.
