Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Transmission Overhead Lines team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.

What will you be doing?
As a Foreman, your key responsibility will be supporting the General Foreman in the safe and efficient delivery of Transmission projects. You’ll coordinate site teams, plant, equipment and daily activities to ensure works are completed to programme, specification and client requirements. You’ll take the lead on site-level safety, quality and productivity, working closely with project teams, subcontractors, clients and internal departments to resolve issues, maintain progress and drive good operational performance.
- Lead by example showing a positive safety culture and encourage behaviours to prevent harm to people. Maintain the highest possible standards.
- Confirm that the team are adhering to the relevant work instructions (WI) and risk assessments (RA) as supplied in site safe work pack (SSWP).
- Undertake Safety Conversations Reports (SCR) on site with M Group and sub-contracted staff. Including Daily “Blue Hat Chats” with lesser experienced persons.
- Report all incidents, accidents and shortfalls in H&S, Quality & Environmental immediately to the General Foreman or Site Manager.
- Monitor sites and record monitoring to satisfy yourself that all environmental measures are understood with appropriate controls are in place.
- Monitor overall quality of works and satisfy yourself that your Chargehands are ensuring robust inspections of workmanship are completed before signing off each QA record.
- Ensure all teams are visited daily and this is recorded on the PASS for each separate visit.
- Ensure people issues (including disciplinary measures) are dealt with effectively using informal and formal procedures as appropriate.
- Carry out task allocation briefings each day, ensuring your chargehands are aware of roles and responsibilities and known hazards are highlighted for each site to be worked on.
- Optimise team sizes by allocating the correct number of staff for the task. Adopt a flexible approach to teams without jeopardising safety.
- Capture and record all holiday requests and manage attendance as required to maintain productivity. ‘Optimise’ holiday requests where a shortfall would occur.
- Check your Chargehands are maintaining an up-to-date site safe work pack (SSWP), accessible to their teams.
- Check required QA records are fully completed (i.e., no empty boxes where they should be filled), signed correctly and provided to the Engineer by your Chargehands.
- Check your Chargehands are accurately recording all team time and attendance, particularly lateness and unauthorised absence. Check sickness is being reported via Empactis.
- Strive for excellence, challenge ourselves, and embrace opportunities to grow.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
