Position/Title: Commercial Plumbing Technician/Foreman
Reporting To: Project Managers/ Contract Supervisors & Construction Managers
The Role
SNIJIB Technician Plumber or Advanced Plumber background who can demonstrate strong technical, organisational and supervisory ability.
Must have extensive experience delivering plumbing installations across commercial and technically demanding environments, with the ability to work from drawings and specifications, coordinate trades, supervise operatives and apprentices, and ensure installations are delivered safely, correctly and to programme.
The role will involve working across a range of projects including commercial, healthcare/NHS, education, domestic and industrial environments throughout Scotland with potential for UK wide and Europe.
Key Responsibilities
Site Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise plumbing operatives, apprentices and subcontractors on site.
- Lead day-to-day plumbing activities and coordinate labour requirements.
- Allocate work to operatives in accordance with the programme and project priorities.
- Monitor productivity, workmanship and progress.
- Provide guidance and technical support to plumbers and apprentices.
- Liaise with Site Managers, Project Managers, Engineers and other trades.
- Attend site coordination and progress meetings when required.
- Promote a positive safety and quality culture.
- Lead by example in all aspects of site conduct and professionalism.
Technical Responsibilities
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and schematics.
- Understand relevant Building Regulations, Water Byelaws and project specifications.
- Ensure installations comply with approved drawings and technical requirements.
- Identify design, coordination and buildability issues and report them promptly.
- Assist with technical queries and RFIs.
- Carry out setting out and measurement of installations.
- Assist with material take-offs and identification of required materials.
- Identify labour and plant requirements.
- Check materials and equipment delivered to site.
- Ensure correct installation methods are being followed.
- Assist the Project Manager with technical and commercial information where required, such as delays and additional works.

Responsibilities will include:
- Complying with company Health & Safety procedures.
- Working in accordance with RAMS and approved installation methods.
- Participating in toolbox talks and site briefings.
- Identifying and reporting hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Maintaining good housekeeping and safe working areas.
- Ensuring appropriate PPE is worn.
- Supporting site inspections and quality inspections.
- Ensuring installations are completed correctly first time.
- Assisting with inspection and test plans.
- Completing installation records and quality documentation.
- Supporting the close-out of defects and snagging.
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship throughout the project.

- Maintain a zero-harm approach and ensure all plumbing activities are undertaken safely and in accordance with company and project requirements.
Quality
- Deliver high-quality installations right first time, minimising defects, rework and snagging.
Programme
- Ensure allocated plumbing works are completed in accordance with the project programme and agreed milestones.
Productivity
- Ensure labour is effectively planned and utilised to achieve required productivity levels.
Technical Compliance
- Ensure all plumbing installations comply with drawings, specifications, Building Regulations, Water Byelaws and applicable standards.
Coordination
- Work effectively with other MEP trades and the principal contractor to minimise clashes, delays and disruption.
Documentation
- Ensure required inspection, testing, commissioning and quality documentation is completed accurately and on time.
Team Development
- Support the development of apprentices, plumbers and junior operatives through coaching, supervision and practical instruction.
Client Satisfaction
- Maintain professional relationships with clients, consultants, main contractors and other project stakeholders.

Essential
QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
- Recognised Plumbing qualification, preferably SVQ/NVQ Level 3 Plumbing & Heating or equivalent.
- Appropriate SNIJIB grading/card for the role.
- Current relevant CSCS/SNIJIB Health & Safety requirements.
- Demonstrable experience as a qualified plumber working on commercial projects.

SHTM awareness and Legionella Awareness are desirable rather than essential, but would be a significant advantage for candidates working on NHS and healthcare contracts.
