Job Introduction

Volunteer Opportunity: Forensic Biometric Vetting Volunteer

Location: Scientific Support Unit, Baches Street, London N1

Commitment: Monday and Tuesday volunteering preferred (16hrs PCM)

Expenses: Covered in line with Force guidance

Are you a recent graduate with a scientific, forensic, or biometrics-related background? Do you have a keen eye for detail and enjoy working with data and information? British Transport Police is seeking a Forensic Biometric Vetting Volunteer to support our Scientific Support Unit in London.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience within a policing environment, contributing to the vetting and recruitment process for prospective police officers.

  • Assist with the processing and quality assurance of biometric samples, including DNA and fingerprints.
  • Support administration and record-keeping activities.
  • Review information with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Work independently while managing and prioritising tasks.
  • Use ICT systems and Microsoft applications, including Excel, to maintain records and support team processes.
  • Contribute to ensuring efficient vetting processes that support policing objectives.

We're Looking For Someone Who

  • Has a forensic, scientific, or biometrics-related qualification or academic background.
  • Has strong attention to detail and enjoys working with information and data.
  • Is confident using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Can use their initiative and work independently.
  • Is keen to learn and develop new skills.
  • Is aged 18 or over.
