Forensic Engineer Collision Investigator - Midlands / South

Full-Time: 35 hours per week
This position is home-based and includes regular travel in the South Midlands / South England region.
Working as part of a growing team within GBB, the role involves investigating and reconstructing road traffic collisions and producing Court-compliant reports.
Investigations will typically involve:
- Vehicle examinations to consider damage patterns, mechanical condition and roadworthiness
- Downloading and analysing vehicle data
- Documentary evidence reviews, witness statements, claim forms, etc.
- Preparing accurate, impartial technical reports on matters of consistency of damage, magnitude of impacts, claims validation, etc.
As an expert witness, Court attendance may be necessary at both Civil hearings. We receive instructions from solicitors, insurance companies, manufacturers, and the general public.
The role will be open to individuals who either demonstrate the qualifications and ability to carry out the role with the appropriate training, or to those who already have the necessary experience to satisfy the requirements.
What will your day look like:
The objective of the role is to inspect vehicles and produce impartial, accurate, and comprehensive reports to assist the Court in understanding collision magnitudes, fraud concerns, liability disputes, and mechanical failures.

To also assist in pre-litigation investigation via the provision of advice as an expert advisor, to assist clients in early identification of concerns, cases warranting further investigation, and case settlement.
Knowledge and Abilities
Essential Qualifications or willingness to achieve:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a scientific, engineering, or physics-related discipline - or equivalent practical experience.
- Can demonstrate suitable experience in a relevant field.
- Hold a full clean driving licence (category B)
Desirable Qualifications or willingness to achieve:
- Incorporated or Chartered Engineer Status (e.g., MIET, IEng, CEng, or industry-specific recognition such as MITAI)
- Specific Collision Investigation Qualifications (UCPD, Cert HE or equivalent)
- Full driving licence with additional category endorsements obtained through further training
Beneficial Experience:
- Collision investigation
- Vehicle examinations
- Vehicle downloads (e.g., Bosch CDR)
- Body Shop or Vehicle Mechanic
- Court attendance
Personal attributes:
- Ability to work unsupervised and demonstrate self-motivation
- Effective management of own workload
- Willingness to travel
- Strong communication skills, especially in production of written reports for a variety of audiences including clients and the Court
- Consistently manage and meet deadlines
- Keenness to engage in continuous learning and regular Continued Professional Development (CPD) activities
- Strong aptitude and enthusiasm for problem-solving
