We are currently recruiting for an experienced Foreperson – Road Planing to join our National Road Planing team based in Rand, near Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality highways planing projects while leading a skilled operational team in a safety-first environment.

As Foreperson, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day management of people, equipment and site operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

What You'll Be Doing

As our Foreperson – Road Planing, you'll lead by example, ensuring operational excellence across a range of highways projects. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing machines, vehicles and site operatives, ensuring everyone is fully equipped, informed and able to carry out their duties safely and effectively
  • Operating a Caterpillar 2-metre road planer, or undertaking training to convert to this machine where appropriate
  • Ensuring all employees and subcontractors hold the correct qualifications, competency certificates and PPE requirements before commencing work
  • Delivering daily briefings and toolbox talks to maintain the highest standards of safety and compliance
  • Completing site-specific documentation, including site records and environmental assessments
  • Attending and delivering site inductions and briefings
  • Promoting a strong safety culture by encouraging the reporting of hazards, near misses and safety observations
  • Ensuring environmental standards and best practice are maintained across all projects
  • Supporting the development of team members, helping operatives become multi-skilled and capable of progressing into wider responsibilities

What We Are Looking For

To succeed in this role, you'll bring proven experience from the road planing sector and a passion for leading teams safely and effectively.

Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience operating a road planer, ideally a Caterpillar 2-metre machine
  • Demonstrable experience working within the highways or road planing industry
  • CSCS qualification
  • Full UK manual driving licence with no more than six penalty points
  • Strong understanding of surfacing methods and the most effective planing techniques
  • Knowledge of road planing machinery and operational capabilities

Desirable Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 in a relevant discipline
  • MPQC/EPIC Competency Card

We're also looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent leadership and people development skills
  • Can motivate and support teams to work safely and efficiently
  • Is adaptable and responsive to changing priorities
  • Takes ownership of challenges and proactively identifies solutions
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Embraces continuous improvement and a positive safety culture
