About The Role

Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced Foreperson to join our construction delivery team. Reporting to site management, you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating construction activities within your assigned work area, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to the required quality standards.

You will lead operatives, gangers and subcontractors on site while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, productivity and continuous improvement. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated construction professional to play a key role in delivering complex and high-profile infrastructure projects.

What you'll be doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate site operatives, gangers and subcontractors within assigned work areas.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out safely and in line with Balfour Beatty's Zero Harm culture.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of Work Package Plans, Risk Assessments and Task Briefings.
  • Deliver regular toolbox talks and safety briefings to the workforce.
  • Monitor workmanship, ensuring works are completed to specification and quality requirements.
  • Promote a Right First Time culture across direct labour and subcontractors.
  • Monitor progress against programme requirements and communicate targets effectively to site teams.
  • Ensure labour, plant and materials are effectively utilised to maximise productivity and minimise waste.
  • Complete quality assurance records using approved digital systems.
  • Carry out Safety & Environment Tours and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the development of team members through coaching and on-the-job guidance.

Who we're looking for

Essential

  • Proven experience in a Foreperson role within civil engineering, infrastructure or construction environments.
  • Experience managing direct labour, subcontractors and site operations.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements within construction.
  • Ability to communicate safe systems of work clearly and effectively.
  • Experience planning and allocating labour, plant and material resources.
  • Good understanding of construction specifications, quality requirements and inspection processes.
  • Experience delivering toolbox talks and workforce briefings.
  • CSCS Card.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including nights and weekends where required.

  • Experience delivering major infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of earthworks, deep drainage and reinforced concrete construction.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risks and identify practical solutions.
  • Experience working in fast-paced project environments with challenging programme deadlines.
