Join RTS Forestry and help shape nationally significant renewable energy and infrastructure projects across Scotland and Northern England.
We are looking for both a Forestry Consultant and an Assistant Forestry Consultant to join our growing consultancy team. Whether you are an experienced forestry professional ready to take ownership of projects or an emerging land use consultant keen to develop your skills, we would love to hear from you.
Working with renewable energy and infrastructure developers and lead environmental consultancies, this is an opportunity to provide professional forestry support where your expertise will directly influence planning outcomes.
About the Roles
As part of our consultancy team, you will work on a broad range of projects where proposed developments impact trees and woodland of all types. You will collaborate closely with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders, helping to deliver high-quality planning advice and practical delivery solutions.
Our consultants are involved from the earliest stages of project development through to implementation, providing a unique opportunity to see projects progress from concept to delivery.
Forestry Consultant
As a Forestry Consultant, you will play a key role in leading and delivering consultancy projects while working closely with the Head of Team. You will take ownership of technical work, delivery of reports, contribute to business development and support other team members where appropriate.
Assistant Forestry Consultant
As an Assistant Forestry Consultant, you will support project delivery through field surveys, GIS mapping, data analysis, and report writing, while building your technical knowledge and consultancy experience within a supportive team environment.
What you will be doing

- Forestry Impact Assessments: Assessing potential impacts of development route options on woodland and trees, advising on route refinements, and contributing to scoping reports.
- Planning & EIA Support: Preparing forestry chapters or appendices for Environmental Impact Assessments Reports (EIAR), structured to demonstrate significant effects, proposed mitigations, and responses to scoping consultations.
- Mapping & Spatial Analysis: Using GIS software and other spatial analysis to identify required infrastructure felling, management felling, and associated impacts.
- Mitigation & Compensatory Planting: Developing mitigation strategies, including compensatory planting schemes.
- Tree Crop Compensation (TCC): Carrying out yield class assessments, stratification of data, valuations, and negotiations with landowners or project managers to agree professional TCC settlements.
- Project and Client Support: Build positive relationships with clients and other relevant stakeholders throughout the planning and delivery stages.
Infrastructure delivery
Alongside planning-related consultancy, you may also deliver a role valued by our clients, that of ensuring smooth handover for the delivery of tree clearance and related works for the consented project to our Infrastructure division.
What We're Looking For
We recognise that candidates bring a range of experiences and backgrounds. You do not need to meet every point below to apply, but we would particularly like to hear from people who can demonstrate the following.
We require you to have.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Forestry, Arboriculture, Environmental Management, or a related discipline
- A full UK driving licence
- Well-developed GIS mapping and spatial analysis ability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment

Location
You will be based at our head office in Crieff, and the roles involve a combination of office and site-based working. Travel throughout Scotland and Northern England will be required.
