Formulation Chemist (UK) - South Yorkshire
A manufacturer of industrial lubricants is seeking a Formulation Chemist to join their technical team. With a strong reputation for innovation and customer focus, they develop high-performance oils, greases, and bespoke blends that keep engineering and manufacturing operations running smoothly.
This role offers the chance to contribute directly to product development, technical excellence, and long-term customer success.
The Opportunity
You’ll be responsible for designing, testing, and refining lubricant formulations, ensuring products meet demanding performance, compliance, and sustainability standards. Working closely with technical service, production, and customers, you’ll help deliver solutions that meet real-world industrial challenges.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Developing new lubricant formulations and improving existing blends
- Conducting laboratory testing and analysis to ensure product performance
- Supporting technical service teams with customer trials and problem-solving
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations
- Maintaining accurate records of formulations, test data, and quality documentation
- Collaborating with production to scale up laboratory formulations into manufacturing batches
- Monitoring industry trends and contributing to continuous product innovation
What We’re Looking For
- Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
- Experience in formulation chemistry, ideally within lubricants, oils, or coatings
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of tribology, additives, and industrial applications (advantageous)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative technical team
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
