We're looking for a Formulation & Technical Development Manager to join our Product Innovation Team. This role will report into our Head of Technical Delivery.
As our in-house technical formulation expert, you'll partner with external labs, manufacturers, and cross-functional teams to deliver commercially viable, compliant, and cutting-edge skincare and colour cosmetics. You'll own formulation development across our full portfolio while optimizing our technical governance and processes. The Role
Your day to day responsibilities will look like this:
- Manage end-to-end formulation development across skincare and colour cosmetics portfolios in alignment with project timelines and commercial objectives
- Provide technical leadership by translating product concepts into clear formulation requirements and evaluating proposed solutions
- Partner with external formulation laboratories and manufacturers to achieve optimal product performance, stability, cost, and manufacturability
- Serve as the company's subject matter expert in cosmetic science, offering technical guidance to cross-functional teams and supporting innovation
- Identify and mitigate technical risks early across assigned projects, escalating key issues with clear recommendations to ensure project delivery
- Lead technical investigations, root-cause analyses, and troubleshooting for formulation, manufacturing, and scale-up issues
- Define and review formulation testing and stability programmes, ensuring formulations meet all quality and technical requirements for commercial manufacture
- Oversee manufacturing trials and first production runs for all new formulations
- Continuously improve formulation development processes, standard operating procedures, and governance to enhance speed and quality
Requirements
- Degree in Cosmetic Science or closely related scientific discipline
- Significant experience in cosmetic formulation development
- Experience across both skincare and colour cosmetics
- Strong understanding of cosmetic ingredients and formulation technologies
- Experience working with external formulation laboratories and manufacturers
- Knowledge of cosmetic manufacturing processes and scale-up
- Strong technical problem-solving capability
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
- Ability to manage multiple complex development projects simultaneously
