Formulation Technician

Swindon - onsite role

£20.37 = £14.55 per hour + 40% shift allowance
12 months contract with potential to go permanent

Shift Pattern:
12-hour day and night shifts, 07:00 - 19:00 / 19:00 - 07:00 - Consists of 2 shifts one week (Wednesday and Thursday), followed by 5 shifts the next week (Monday, Tuesday, then Friday, Saturday and Sunday), after which the cycle repeats.


Gi Group is partnering with a global leader in the life sciences sector to recruit a Formulation Technician/ Pharmaceutical Production Operator to join their pharmaceutical manufacturing team in Swindon on a 12-month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented individual looking to develop their career in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The Role

As a Formulation Technician/ Pharmaceutical Production Operator, your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting up and operating bulk manufacturing skids and small- to large-scale compounding systems in accordance with approved SOPs.
  • Preparing pharmaceutical formulations using specialised manufacturing skids and vessel systems, following batch manufacturing records.
  • Preparing and testing equipment and manufacturing modules.
  • Operating automated vessels, autoclaves, airlocks and equipment cleaning systems to ensure equipment is clean, sterilised and ready for use.
  • Completing batch documentation accurately and in accordance with cGMP requirements.
  • Monitoring equipment performance and readiness, reporting faults or issues to the relevant supervisor.
  • Supporting equipment start-ups, changeovers, testing and cleaning to minimise downtime and product waste.
  • Working collaboratively with Production, Engineering and Quality teams to maintain high standards of safety, quality and compliance.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office and internet applications.
  • Previous manufacturing experience is desirable, ideally within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical or another regulated production environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • A strong quality mindset, with a focus on patient safety and product quality.
  • Good manual dexterity and the physical ability to carry out production duties.
  • A willingness to work in controlled cleanroom environments and follow gowning and hygiene procedures.
  • Flexibility to work a rotating 24/7 shift pattern, including days, nights and weekends.
  • GCSE Maths and English or equivalent numeracy skills, with the ability to understand and follow detailed written instructions.
