Forward Deployed Engineer | London | Tech4Good AI Startup
Location: London (hybrid)
Salary: £100,000-£140,000 + equity

Not every engineer wants to spend their career working from tickets. Some want to sit alongside customers, understand messy real-world problems, build solutions quickly, and see the impact of their work almost immediately. If that's you, keep reading...

We're working with a high-growth AI startup that's using AI to tackle one of society's biggest challenges. Their product is already live, deployed into dozens of organisations, and helping frontline teams spend less time on administration and more time doing what matters.

They're looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer. If you've never had that title before, don't worry. What they're really looking for is someone who combines strong end-to-end engineering skills with excellent communication. Someone who's equally comfortable talking to customers, understanding complex workflows, and then jumping into the codebase to build the right solution.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Working directly with customers to understand operational challenges.
  • Turning ambiguous problems into production-ready AI products.
  • Building across the full stack using Python, React, and TypeScript.
  • Designing APIs, workflows, and integrations that fit seamlessly into customer environments.
  • Taking customer feedback and using it to shape the core product.
  • Owning projects from initial conversation through to deployment.

They're looking for someone who:

  • Has built production software across modern backend and frontend technologies.
  • Enjoys solving real customer problems, not just technical ones.
  • Communicates confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Thrives in ambiguity and takes ownership without waiting to be asked.
  • Is excited by AI and enjoys building products from idea to production.

Previous Forward Deployed Engineering experience isn't expected. In fact, many great FDEs come from Product Engineering, Full Stack Engineering, or Founding Engineer backgrounds. What matters is your ability to combine strong technical skills with curiosity, empathy, and excellent communication.
