£150,000–£300,000 base + equity | Full-time | Five days a week in the London office | Up to 25% client travel
MBN Solutions is partnering with a growing software company building technology that helps engineering teams ship reliable products faster.
We’re looking for an exceptional hands-on Forward Deployed Engineer, technical founder, or founding engineer who has personally built demanding production systems and owned their delivery to customers.
You should be able to demonstrate both: the engineering depth to diagnose difficult problems in unfamiliar codebases and ship core product changes, and the communication and ownership to lead a customer from initial scoping through a successful rollout.
With a base salary of £150,000–£300,000 plus equity, this role carries substantial responsibility. You’ll work directly with senior engineering leaders, take ownership of complex deployments, and help shape an early FDE function.
Recent production coding and clear evidence of personal delivery are essential. London-based, five days in the office, with up to 25% client travel.
What you’ll do
- Own customer deployments from technical scoping and pilot through integration and production rollout, working directly with customer engineers and engineering leaders.
- Diagnose difficult problems in unfamiliar codebases, trace issues into the core product, and write production code to resolve them.
- Design and ship product improvements that solve demanding customer requirements and make future deployments more effective.
- Tackle engineering challenges involving browser behavior, web APIs, complex architectures, and continuous integration.
- Partner with an account executive or founder, taking responsibility for technical delivery, customer communication, and keeping each engagement moving.
- Help establish the tooling and engineering practices of an early forward deployed engineering function.

What you’ll bring
- A track record of personally building technically demanding production systems, including experience in a high-growth startup as a founding engineer, technical founder, or similarly hands-on engineer.
- Recent, substantial coding experience. You can explain the architecture, implementation decisions, and hardest problems in systems you built yourself.
- Evidence of owning technical delivery for customers or users, from understanding the problem to shipping a working solution and resolving issues after launch.
- Strong algorithmic reasoning and debugging skills, with the ability to break down unfamiliar problems and build solutions in a collaborative technical interview.
- Clear, precise communication: you can explain complex engineering decisions, work through trade-offs with senior technical stakeholders, and take responsibility when a deployment becomes difficult.
- A specific achievement that demonstrates exceptional engineering ability—for example, building a product from scratch, solving a significant scaling problem, or making a substantial open-source contribution.
- Strong computer science foundations, supported by a relevant degree or equivalent depth of practical engineering experience.

We’re particularly interested in technical founders, founding engineers, and FDEs whose customer-facing work involves substantial software development.
Candidates moving into their first FDE role should demonstrate strong hands-on engineering, stakeholder ownership, and a clear motivation for working directly with customers.
You’ll typically bring three to eight years of relevant experience; the depth of your contribution matters more than the number. JavaScript, TypeScript, browser systems, and developer tooling experience are useful, but the technical assessment centers on engineering fundamentals and problem-solving.
