AI at Orbis

At Orbis, we use AI to expand what our people can achieve: deeper investment insight, better informed decisions and more time for work that demands our judgement. We combine advances in AI with our own data, knowledge and investment expertise to develop capabilities that strengthen how we invest, serve clients and operate.

The Orbis AI Platform already connects models with our systems, data and firm knowledge, supporting AI use across the firm. We are extending this foundation to agents that carry out increasingly complex tasks and workflows, with clear human accountability. This is an opportunity to build on that progress: translating business understanding and engineering expertise into capabilities that extend what an investment firm can do.

The role

To help deliver this ambition, we are seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer, AI to join our team in London. This role is for a hands-on engineer who combines technical depth, product judgement and business understanding to build solutions on the Orbis AI Platform and help shape how AI is applied across the firm.

You will work directly alongside investment research, operations and client reporting colleagues, getting to know their work, questioning assumptions and identifying where technology can make a meaningful difference. You will have scope to shape the problem and the approach, taking solutions from the first conversation through to deployment and adoption. That could mean helping analysts investigate companies, making firm knowledge easier to apply, automating operational processing or strengthening client reporting.

Working in a small team, you will combine product judgement with engineering craft: shaping how a solution should work with our colleagues, then building, testing and improving it in practice. You will draw on the Orbis AI Platform’s connections to models, data and firm knowledge, partnering with platform and development colleagues to deliver reliable applications and agents. You will see how your work performs in daily use, and what you learn will help shape the platform’s next capabilities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About you

  • Asset management knowledge and experience are strongly preferred, particularly in investment research, operations or client reporting. We also welcome engineers with a strong record of learning another complex domain.
  • Strong software engineering foundations and experience building applications that people use, including APIs and system integrations.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development and connecting models to data and systems, with an understanding of their limitations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and product judgement: you get to the root of a problem, challenge assumptions and distinguish business needs from requested features to choose a proportionate solution.
  • Business curiosity and clear communication across teams and locations: you learn unfamiliar domains, listen carefully, explain technical choices and make space for different perspectives.
  • Ownership and initiative: you make considered decisions in ambiguous situations, seek specialist input, learn through experimentation and follow work through.

The company

We are a global firm with offices across eight countries, over 400 employees and more than $40 billion in assets under management. But those numbers don’t define Orbis. It’s our values, how we do things day-by-day, and how we add value for our clients that define us. Our investment philosophy is fundamental, long-term and contrarian. As contrarian investors, we aim to take a different perspective, and this filters into everything we do. To invest differently, you need to think differently. This is encouraged by having teams of people with different backgrounds, experiences and ways of thinking.
