Legal & General is recruiting for the role of Forward Deployed Engineer (Java, Typescript & Azure). The role joins the Group Protection technology team to help design, build and deliver modern cloud-based solutions. It involves working across the full software delivery lifecycle with engineers, product owners, and stakeholders.

What you’ll do

  • Own and evolve services and applications throughout their full lifecycle.
  • Work with product owners and stakeholders to understand business needs and shape technical solutions.
  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable applications using modern engineering practices.
  • Improve quality through automated testing, observability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support technical problem-solving and incident investigation and resolution.
  • Mentor and coach engineers to strengthen team capability and technical excellence.

What they’re looking for

  • Have strong commercial experience developing software using Java and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Be experienced in building and supporting RESTful microservices in Spring Boot, Node.js, or similar frameworks.
  • Understand cloud technologies, ideally Azure, plus infrastructure and containerisation tools.
  • Have experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices, preferably including GitHub Actions.
  • Know software design principles, clean architecture, and test-driven development.
  • Have worked in Agile environments using Scrum or Kanban.
  • Communicate well, manage stakeholders, and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Have experience mentoring engineers and working in a collaborative, inclusive team culture.
