Role: Forward Deployed Engineer - AI Product

Salary: Flexible + equity

Are you an engineer who loves building with LLMs, but also wants to stay close to customers and the product decisions behind what gets built?

If so, this could be worth a look.

I’m working with an early-stage AI company building intelligent software for a large, operationally complex industry. Their platform automates time-consuming, manual workflows - from customer communications and coordination through to scheduling, compliance, and operational administration.

This isn’t a traditional Product Manager role, and it isn’t a conventional engineering role either. It sits closer to a Forward Deployed Engineer: someone who can take a messy customer problem, work out what will genuinely solve it, and build the solution directly.

The team builds product natively with LLM tools, particularly Claude Code. Rather than writing tickets and handing work over, Product works closely with Engineering to build, test, and iterate directly, with a real focus on quality, speed, and customer impact.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You’ll join a small product team at an important point in the journey. The product is live with a growing base of trial customers, with strong early conversion, alongside a second major enterprise client now in trial. The team is scaling quickly, with a clear opportunity to shape the product as it moves from early traction into wider commercial rollout.

What they’re looking for

  • A strong software-engineering foundation, ideally with around 3–5 years’ experience and a technical degree
  • Someone who has moved towards product, customers, or commercial problems without losing the instinct to build
  • Genuine hands-on experience building with LLM tooling - ideally Claude Code
  • Evidence of taking an ambiguous problem through to a working product, prototype, or live customer solution
  • Strong product judgement: able to make sensible calls on what to build, what to leave out, and how to get to value quickly
  • Comfortable working directly with customers and turning imperfect feedback into a clear technical or product solution
  • High standards for quality, with the curiosity and rigour to investigate why something is not working
  • Happy in a small, in-person, high-ownership team where pace is high, and the work is visible
  • Startup, founder, or Forward Deployed Engineering experience would be particularly relevant
