The Role
As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you’ll be Revel’s primary technical liaison with customers—bridging the gap between our software and their systems. Your work shapes product roadmaps while ensuring seamless integrations in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- On-site technical leadership: Lead integration of Revel’s platform with customer hardware.
- Code & deployment ownership: Write production-grade code for hardware control and build custom dashboards with engineering teams.
- End-to-end delivery: Oversee full deployment cycles—from test stands to live environments—connecting actuators, sensors, and existing infrastructure.
- Strategic partnerships: Deepen technical trust with customer portfolios to expand Revel’s impact over time.
- Product feedback loop: Serve as the bridge between field insights and Revel’s Head of Product for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with internal software engineers to implement customer-driven enhancements.
- 30–50% travel (Primary hubs: California; domestic & international engagements).

What You’ll Do
- ✅ Write & deploy production-grade hardware control systems alongside customer engineers.
- ✅ Design & integrate custom dashboards and automation workflows for complex environments.
- ✅ Own full integration cycles: From proof-of-concept to live hardware deployment.
- ✅ Build lasting technical relationships—become a trusted advisor to your customer teams.
- ✅ Deliver actionable feedback to shape Revel’s software and hardware roadmap.
- ✅ _debug & troubleshoot on-site with outdated specs, delayed documentation, and noisy systems.
Requirements
Must-Haves
- 5+ years’ post-college engineering experience (CS background preferred).
- Proficient in: C, C++, or Python. Rust is a strong plus.
- Hardware-aware software expertise: Hands-on with embedded systems or real-time control environments.
- System design across layers: Firmware ↔ Software ↔ Hardware integration called-out.
- Troubleshooting & communication: Diagnostic impulse + innate ability to earn trust with hardware teams.
- Travel-ready: Job demands 30–50% field time (remote, travel for customer sites).
- Compliance with ITAR restrictions: US citizenship, LPR, refugee, or asylee required.

Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with:
- Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems, PLCs, or modern control frameworks (e.g., NI Suite, TwinCAT, CodeSys).
- Embedded robotics, aerospace, automotive, or similar domains.
- Field engineering roles (FDE, applications engineering).
- Startup culture + passion for automation or advanced manufacturing.
