About the Role
There are plenty of AI startups promising impact. This one is already delivering it!
I'm working with an early-stage healthcare AI company building products directly into real operational environments, helping healthcare teams remove huge amounts of repetitive work and ultimately spend more time on the things that actually need humans.
They're hiring Forward Deployed Engineers to work at the intersection of customers, product and engineering, getting close to users to understand how things actually work before designing and shipping the software to improve them. Rather than receiving perfectly defined requirements, you'll be expected to make sense of messy operational problems, work out what matters and own the solution through to production.
What you learn from each deployment also feeds back into the wider product, so this isn't about endlessly building one-off customer solutions. You'll have a direct line between understanding problems in the real world, solving them and influencing how the core platform develops.

Responsibilities
You'll be responsible for:
- Building end-to-end product features across Python/FastAPI and React
- Working directly with healthcare customers to understand complex operational challenges
- Turning messy, ambiguous requirements into pragmatic, production-ready solutions
- Owning problems from the initial conversation through to deployment and iteration
- Feeding insights from customers and users back into the core product
- Having genuine influence over what gets built and how
Who They're Looking For
You don't necessarily need Forward Deployed Engineer on your CV. You might already have experience working closely with customers, deploying complex products or owning problems beyond the boundaries of a traditional engineering role. Equally, you might be an ambitious Product or Full Stack Engineer with the technical foundations, curiosity and communication skills to step into something broader.
The common thread is wanting more ownership, more exposure to real users and a much more direct connection between the problems you're solving and the impact of the software you build.

You'll need to be technically strong, comfortable speaking with technical and non-technical people, able to think commercially as well as technically, and happy being given a problem rather than a perfectly defined ticket.
