Walsall Council, Fostering Recruitment Officer - Ref: CH08226
Black Country Fostering Hub
G6: £32,578 - £35,570 per annum.
Fixed-term appointments for 18 months to 2 years, with part-time and full-time opportunities available.
The role includes some weekend working and participation in a duty rota to respond to evening enquiries.
Your experience, insight, and ability to connect with people could help more children across the Black Country find safe, stable, and loving homes.
We are looking for Fostering Recruitment Officers to guide prospective foster carers through the first steps of a life-changing journey.
The Black Country Fostering Hub brings together Walsall, Wolverhampton, Dudley, and Sandwell Children’s Trust to recruit and support more local foster carers. By combining regional reach with local knowledge and support, we aim to increase the number and diversity of fostering households so that more children can live close to their families, schools, and communities.
As a Fostering Recruitment Officer, you will help prospective foster carers take their first steps towards providing a safe, stable, and loving home.
From the first phone call or conversation, you will be a trusted and consistent point of contact for prospective foster carers. You will listen to what is motivating them, answer questions, visit them at home, support their preparation and training, and coordinate each next step through to the start of assessment. Working closely with colleagues across the four partner authorities, you will help every prospective foster carer receive a warm, timely, and well-organized experience.
We welcome people who can build trust, listen well, and help others make informed decisions. You may bring experience from fostering, social care, recruitment, community engagement, training, or another people-focused setting. What matters is your ability to combine empathy with sound judgement, organization, and a clear focus on the needs of children. You will also use feedback and performance information to improve the recruitment journey and help shape this new regional service.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
