Foundation apprenticeships are introductory courses that help young people get started in an industry. You do not need to have any specific qualifications or experience to apply. Anyone between 16 and 21 can start a foundation apprenticeship. If you're between 22 and 24, you can start if you:
- have an EHC plan
- are in care or have been in care
- are in prison or have been in prison
Start your career in carpentry with a hands-on apprenticeship that combines practical experience with professional training.
You’ll learn alongside a young carpenter who has recently completed the same course, giving you relatable support and guidance as you develop your skills.
Wage
- £16,640 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
- National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices

Hours
- Monday to Friday. Shifts to be confirmed.
- 40 hours a week

What you'll do at work
As a Carpentry Apprentice, you’ll work alongside experienced carpenters and learn the skills needed to become a qualified tradesperson. Your day-to-day duties will include:
- helping with measuring and marking out
- cutting and fitting timber
- using hand and power tools safely
- assisting with first and second-fix carpentry
- preparing materials and keeping the work area clean and organised

You’ll gradually take on more responsibility as your skills and confidence develop. You’ll also work closely with a recently qualified young carpenter who has completed the same training, giving you practical support and guidance while you learn on-the-job.
You’ll be expected to arrive on time, work safely, listen to instructions, take pride in your work and show a positive attitude towards learning.

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, there is the opportunity to stay on with the company and progress into a permanent carpentry role. As you develop your skills and experience, you may also have the opportunity to progress onto a Level 2 and 3 Carpentry and Joinery qualification, further developing your knowledge and opening up additional career opportunities within the construction industry.
