The Utley Foundation
We’re looking for an experienced, organised and relationship-focused Foundation Manager to join The Utley Foundation on a fixed-term maternity-cover contract.
This is a varied role at the heart of a small, hands-on charitable foundation. Working closely with our CEO and trustees, you’ll help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Foundation while managing a diverse portfolio of grants and relationships with the organisations we support.
The role spans grant-making, finance and operations, governance, partner relationships and communications, so we’re looking for someone who is comfortable managing detail while keeping sight of the bigger picture.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day coordination of the Foundation, including:
- Managing the grant-making cycle, from initial enquiries, applications and due diligence through to recommendations, awards, payments and reporting
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with funded partners, monitoring progress, budgets, outcomes and impact
- Preparing grant assessments, financial breakdowns and recommendations for the CEO and trustees
- Maintaining grant, budget, payment and operational records and coordinating payments and financial administration
- Supporting management accounts, audit requirements and financial reporting
- Coordinating trustee meetings, including papers, reports, agendas, minutes and follow-up actions
- Supporting governance, compliance, policies and organisational processes
- Managing day-to-day Foundation administration, suppliers, enquiries and operational systems
- Supporting the Foundation’s communications, including website, social media, partner updates and impact stories
- Attending partner meetings and visits and representing the Foundation externally where appropriate
- Undertaking other work as required to support the Foundation in pursuing its charitable aims

About you
You’ll be someone who can confidently take ownership of a busy and varied workload, build trusted relationships and keep things moving without needing lots of layers or bureaucracy around you.
You’ll ideally bring experience of grant-making, charity or foundation operations, programme management or a similar role, alongside strong written communication, financial administration and organisational skills.
You’ll need to be comfortable working with senior stakeholders, including trustees, charity leaders and external partners, and able to handle sensitive information with discretion.
The suitable candidate will be comfortable working with numbers, with a strong aptitude for understanding budgets and using spreadsheets.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is practical, thoughtful, proactive and exceptionally organised, with good judgement and the confidence to spot when something needs attention.

About The Utley Foundation
The Utley Foundation is a private charitable foundation supporting organisations and initiatives that create meaningful social impact. Our grant-making spans a range of areas, with established work including music and dementia, children and young people, and support for the Armed Forces community.
We are a small team, which means this role offers genuine exposure across the Foundation and the opportunity to work closely with our CEO, trustees, funded partners and wider network.
The details
Role: Foundation Manager, Maternity Cover
Contract: Fixed-term maternity cover
Reporting to: CEO and Trustees
Location: Remote working, with a preference for candidates based in London due to meetings, partner visits and other in-person activity
Working pattern: Full-time, with flexible working arrangements possible
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Start date: ASAP
Contract length: 15 months fixed term (depending on start date)
