Role: Founders Associate
Location: Hybrid (London, Moorgate). Full-time, starting ASAP
About Mater-AI
Many of the materials that will define the next century of energy and computation don't exist yet, so we're building the AI-driven pipeline to find them. Mater-AI is a deep-tech startup in London using machine learning to discover novel thermoelectric materials that cool electronics with no moving parts and turn waste heat into usable electricity. Backed by leading venture capital investors and millions in grant funding, we're scaling into our next stage of growth.
About the Role
You'll work directly alongside our COO and Co-Founder as their operational right hand, driving execution across fundraising, commercial partnerships, hiring, operations, and strategy. This is a high-agency operations and commercial role, not an administrative one: you'll turn meetings into action, remove bottlenecks, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks. Every week is different, and you'll take real ownership from day one. As Mater-AI grows, this role is expected to evolve into a Strategic Operations Lead or Chief of Staff position.
What you'll do
- Act as the operational right hand to the COO, owning follow-through on actions, decisions, and next steps across the business.
- Attend investor, customer, commercial, and internal meetings; capture actions and drive accountability.
- Coordinate projects across every function, removing bottlenecks, and keeping execution on track.
- Support fundraising, investor due diligence, and preparation of fundraising materials.
- Support commercial strategy and partnerships, from first conversation through to execution.
- Prepare strategic presentations, grant applications, and key business documentation.
- Coordinate hiring, onboarding, and internal operations.
- Build the operational systems and processes that let the company scale.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
