Senior / Staff Backend Engineer | £120k - £140k + equity | London
Finding somewhere to live should be exciting. The experience of actually finding it often isn't.
Techmunity are exclusively hiring for a London startup that's raised a £2M seed round to build a video-first property platform.
Instead of searching through grids of listings and static photos, users discover homes through full-screen video walkthroughs and a personalised feed that learns what they like.
It's designed for people actively looking to move, but also the much larger audience who simply enjoy looking at property. The opportunity is to build something consumers choose to open regularly, while giving agents, brokers and developers a better way to showcase their properties and generate higher-intent inquiries.
They already have a growing network of London property businesses signed up ahead of launch. Now they're building out the engineering team.

The Founding Backend Engineer role
You'll join as their first senior backend hire and own the data and backend architecture behind the platform.
A key challenge is personalisation. Someone moving next month wants precision around location, price and availability. Someone casually browsing wants discovery and inspiration. You'll build the systems that understand the difference and decide which homes each person sees.
Your first 90 days will focus on evaluating the existing feed, then building the retrieval, feature and data architecture behind it.
From there, you'll own how the backend evolves as users, listings and data grow, with the opportunity to move into broader technical leadership as the team expands.
The stack today is deliberately simple: TypeScript, Postgres/Supabase, Deno and Cloudflare. You'll help decide what stays and what changes as they scale, they're tech agnostic when it comes the specific technologies you've used before, much more interested in what you've built.

What they're looking for
Essential:
- Senior/Staff-level backend engineering experience
- Experience designing and scaling data-intensive systems
- Strong data modelling, API and architecture fundamentals
- Experience making significant architectural decisions
- Pragmatism around when to introduce complexity
Useful:
- Consumer product experience
- Recommendation, ranking, search or personalisation
- Real-time or event-driven systems
- Backend systems supporting mobile apps
- TypeScript/Postgres experience
You don't need to be an ML engineer or have recommendation experience.
Salary: £120k - £140k + equity
Location: London, 3 days per week
