Purpose of the role
The Founding Cooperative Development Organiser will help establish FCCC's economic programme in practice, with the long-term objective of developing a federation of worker-owned enterprises.
This role is not primarily about researching cooperatives. Research will be necessary, but the objective is to move from research to identifying, developing and launching real cooperative enterprises.
Key responsibilities
- Help establish FCCC's approach to worker cooperative development.
- Identify sectors and businesses where worker ownership could realistically be established.
- Identify potential founding members and prospective worker-owners.
- Research appropriate legal and organisational structures.
- Develop practical cooperative business models.
- Investigate sources of cooperative finance, grants and investment.
- Establish relationships with existing worker cooperatives and cooperative organisations.
- Identify potential premises, suppliers, customers and commercial partners.
- Develop business plans and financial models for prospective cooperatives.
- Help develop FCCC's proposed Workers Cooperative Federation.
- Establish practical procedures for supporting new cooperatives.
- Help identify opportunities for cooperation between future FCCC-affiliated enterprises.
- Contribute to proposals for cooperative housing, land ownership and cooperative finance where appropriate.
- Report progress to the wider founding organisation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
