A well-backed, early-stage AI company is building an "AI department" for the everyday economy: mid-market accountants, lawyers, wealth managers, and agencies who want to partner for their technology rather than build it themselves.
You own the customer's problem and the value case for solving it. You join deals before they close, embed inside the customer's business, and decide with them what the right problem is. You pair with an engineer who owns the build. You're the first person in this seat, so you write the playbook the next strategists run.
What you'll own:
- The problem definition, running discovery inside the customer covering workflows, data, decisions, and politics, synthesised into one clear view of the problem and how to solve it.
- The value case, scoping every deployment against a measurable outcome, putting real numbers on it before close, and measuring what was delivered after.
- The deployment, writing the spec your engineering pair builds from, running the engagement to go-live, and owning enablement and adoption on the customer side.
- The relationship, being the customer's trusted advisor from the first conversation through expansion.
- The playbook, codifying what works so the next deployment starts further ahead.

What we're looking for:
- Structured thinking under ambiguity, imposing structure on a vague, messy problem and landing on a recommendation.
- Executive presence, able to influence senior stakeholders including people older and more experienced than you.
- Commercial ownership, having scoped value cases with real numbers and carried an engagement across the line.
- Active AI fluency, building with AI tools yourself and holding earned opinions on what the models can and cannot do.
- Political mapping, finding champions, naming resistance, and navigating the organisation as it actually is.
