About the Role
We’re helping an ambitious London-based founder hire a Founding Engineer / future technical leader for an early-stage AI company building the intelligence layer for professional sports.
The founder is a former professional basketball player with a background spanning neuroscience, AI and machine learning, and is building technology designed to fundamentally improve how professional teams scout, recruit and analyse athlete performance.
There is already technical capability around the business, so this is not simply about finding another engineer. The priority is finding someone with deep technical ability who is excited by the problem and can help shape the underlying technology alongside the founder.
This is a highly hands-on founding role with significant scope to grow into a long-term technical leadership position.
The Product
The company is building contextual analysis and spatial AI for professional sports teams.
The technology combines computer vision, machine learning and AI to extract previously difficult-to-measure contextual information from sports footage.
Over time, this could extend into areas including 3D spatial reconstruction, robotics and potentially hardware, creating a much deeper intelligence layer around athlete scouting, recruitment and performance.

Responsibilities
- Help design and build the core computer vision and spatial intelligence technology
- Develop models capable of extracting meaningful contextual information from video and movement data
- Work on player tracking, spatial relationships, movement and temporal analysis
- Build and fine-tune machine learning / AI models for highly specialised sports use cases
- Explore techniques for reconstructing spatial and potentially 3D information from 2D footage
- Work directly with the founder to turn ambitious research ideas into working products
- Help define the company’s technical architecture and longer-term research direction
- Remain highly hands-on as the company develops its first generation of technology
You Are
- Strong in computer vision and machine learning, with meaningful hands-on experience building real systems
- Comfortable working with video, tracking, spatial data or related perception problems
- Interested in problems involving movement, positioning, trajectories and temporal relationships
- Entrepreneurial and excited by solving an ambitious technical problem from an early stage
- Comfortable operating with ambiguity and helping define the solution rather than waiting for a detailed specification
- Interested in sports, spatial intelligence, robotics or human performance, direct sports experience is useful but not essential
- Based in the UK or EU.
